Breast units implementation? À la carte, survey says
Breast units implementation? À la carte, survey says. Breast units patchy panorama confirms ECIBC evidence-based approach is needed.
Although the breast units' model was widely recognised as a valid and innovative tool to address breast cancer care, the data collected in 30 countries show that its implementation - thus its impact on the quality of care - remains a challenge.
After 10 years, its implementation differs largely among requirements and organisational aspects, e.g. the yearly threshold of the minimum number of new cases, seem to be the most critical.
The results of this survey confirm the need of a renewed approach to truly impact on the quality of breast cancer care.
