Evidence-based guidelines for the entire care pathway
ECIBC covers all processes of breast cancer care from screening to end-of-life care. The European Breast Guidelines will cover screening and diagnosis while the other processes will be covered by a GuidelinesPlatform. We are, in fact, searching and evaluating 280 guidelines published worldwide.
Developed from the women and patients’ point of view, ECIBC empowers women and patients. Once the breast cancer services have implemented the European QA scheme, the website will map the accredited/certified centres, enabling women and patients to make an informed decision on where to go for care.
The European QA scheme focuses on women’s needs and ensures that the screening and care pathway is covered in its entirety. The ECIBC website hosts the recommendations that are progressively released, in different versions made bespoke for the needs of professionals, patients and individuals, and the policy makers. The recommendations will be available in all EU languages.
A transparent Initiative
ECIBC is a transparent Initiative. Full information is available and shared with public at all development and implementation stages.
ECIBC applies an inclusive and bottom-up approach. ECIBC is supported by two working groups composed of medical doctors and other healthcare professionals, researchers, and patients selected through a transparent process to join the project on a voluntary basis after a public call for expression of interest. Everyone is welcome to participate to the calls for feedback on specific documents, as well as for general expression of interest, launched on line at crucial stages of the development. Feedback is essential for ECIBC, now and when the European QA scheme will be established: users’ feedback nourishes the lifecycle of the scheme, helping with adjustment and continuous improvements.
A sustainable Initiative in time
ECIBC is a sustainable Initiative. The web-based Guidelines will be constantly updated without the need of new editions. The European QA scheme will include self-updating tool according to new scientific evidence and its functioning.
Accountable, factual and clearly defined, free from financial and intellectual interests. ECIBC structure and model is thought as blue print Initative that could exported to other diseases' projects.
35 Countries and 29 languages
ECIBC involves 35 countries which are actively collaborating. They include: EU member states, EFTA members,
associate and acceding countries. Check out the full list of the national contacts.
ECIBC is open to participation to all interested Countries through public calls.
At date, the ECIBC outcomes are foreseen to be translated in all EU official languages plus Icelandic, Macedonian, Montenegrin, Norwegian, Serbian, and Turkish languages. Both the European QA scheme and European Breast Guidelines may be applied well beyond Europe.
