The Avedis Donabedian Research Institute of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (FAD) is a non-profit organisation whose mission is to collaborate with organisations and public administrations, associations of citizens and professionals, and other public and private institutions with the aim of improving the quality of health and social services that citizens receive. Since 1989, FAD has specialized on quality improvement in healthcare and social areas. FAD has extensive experience in supporting development of external evaluation systems (certification, accreditation of health services and development of indicators) in Spain and abroad. FAD has participated in the development of several accreditation systems (Peru, Spain (Catalunya and Valencia), Italy (Bolzano)), developing manuals and evaluation systems and also has cooperated for the preparation of 54 centers for the Joint Commission international accreditation. Extensive experience in the evaluation of services, including quality assessment of breast cancer care in more than 100 Spanish hospitals; and our organisation has been an advisor for the project regarding standards for rare diseases in the EU. FAD has led more than 15 tenders and research projects in the EU, and has the ability to merge development of viable requirements with current professional practice and EU policy.
